hi
Years later after Bogyoke was assassinated, it became widely recognized that the secret British factions, organized as the ‘Friends of the Hill peoples’ masterminded the murder of ‘Bogyoke’ and his cabinet. They were obviously distressed with Bogyoke Aung San’s passionate conviction and ability to unite the ethnic minorities as well as merge the fractious and disparate political groups. Thus, the secret friends (British radical factions) of the hill peoples (main was KNU) objected to the independence and unification of Burma, which they perceived by a sense that Britain was leaving them under the yoke of Burmans. Foolishly believing the assassination would force Burma to remain under British rule, it only made the call for the Independence more pronounced. Clement Atlee, the then Prime Minister of Great Britain was concerned of the outbreak of civil war in Burma, immediately granted Independence.
Since 1886 when Burma came under its control, annexed and ruled as a province of Imperial India, the British policy of ‘Divide and Rule’ throughout their vast Empire was also implied in Burma.
Once the British rule commenced in 1886, it openly favored Indian and Chinese immigrants they had brought to Burma with them. With the free enterprise established under British control, most of the economy, trade and industry went to British, Indians and Chinese. From the indigenous races, although the Burmans were by far the dominant group, the British ruled differently and favored Anglo-Burmans and Hill Peoples – particularly Karen, Shan, Chin and Kachin (who in the past resisted British invasions together with the Burmans). Left more to their own devices under the Frontier Areas Council, the areas of central Burma and the Delta, known as ‘Ministerial Burma’ or ‘Burma Proper’ where the Burmans dominated numerically, were ruled directly with a separate administration from that of the Frontier Areas. Furthermore, the British singled out the ‘Karens’ and the ‘Anglo-Burmese’ for the colonial armed forces to fight for the British masters if war broke out.. The Karens also welcomed the British and embraced Christianity, further alienating them from the Burmans. Consequently, the Burmans now saw themselves ruled by the British, Anglo-Burmese, Indian, Chinese and ‘hill people’ in their own land, which was once the modest Southeast Asian Empire.
During the British rule, the vast Irrawaddy River Delta and the central plains were cleared, and the most fertile rice growing land in the world was developed. Hence, Burma became no.1 rice exporting nation in the world. However, in order to prepare the new land for cultivation, farmers were forced to borrow money from Indian money lenders called ‘chettiars’(Chit Tee Kalar) at high interest rates and were often foreclosed on and evicted losing land, livestock and even home. The public services were largely staffed by Indians and most of the jobs also went to indentured Indian laborers. Burmans were excluded almost entirely from military service. Though the country prospered, the Burmans failed to reap the rewards. Anglo-Burmese and ethnic Karens were by now dominant in the political, educational, military, police and economic spheres of Burmese life, and modeled themselves on the British with all things European, in dress, language, religion and social customs. Arrogant and ‘too European’, they were increasingly viewed by the Burmans as traitors.
So, if someone started to write about something history, please do not let it become “his story”. History cannot be erased or bluff.
wrong idea, stupid thoughts, rubbish post.
I agree with him for pointing out the auto-suggestion of Burmese army.
that guy dr Aung Khin or whoever posted it doesnt respect to the hero like Gen.Aung San who fought their lives for the country.
shame on you guys!!! try getting your money but stop pushing down the country
I agree this article overall. There may be some details that needs more scrutinizing. It is quite correct that the British and American armies defeated the Japanese. BIA participated in a supporting role not the dominant role. The British and American armies would have finished the Japanese no matter what.
it is true that if there was no B.D.A,british will not give indepedence.
it is true that burmese army officers belive socialist but when there was no socialict party, no body belive. They have no brain. If their leader say this women is no good, they agree "yes" but nextday if their leader say this women is good, they agree "yes".Inside Burma Army, all the the officers r like that. They have no brian.
dr aung kihn.
british and american kick out the japanese from Burma. Not BIA, bsolutely right but if there was no BIA,british will not give indepedence.
If Burma (Myanma) Army did not revolt the fascist Japanese and smashed its morale, the allied forces that launched the offensive against the Japanese to re-occupy Myanmar would definitely encounter a stiff resistance and heavy casualties. The morale of the enemy was down to zero at that time, because, the locals, Burma Army had revolted, thus the British and American forces could easily over-ran the Japanese.
Don’t be mistaken. It was true. Sometimes you don’t even need a single shot to win the war. In any war, the most vital is the morale. It had been explicitly proven in Korean and Indochina (Vietnam) wars. I don't blame you because you are just a doctor or something and did not know about the "morale".
If the British were so strong at the time when they re-occupied Burma, why did they grant Burma independence, hastily? Please do not forget General Aung San's speech to the people: “Britain must give us independence in one year. If not, we will sort to violence and confrontation”. That was what Britain afraid of.
You know why the Great Great Britain was afraid? It was not the guns. It was the “People”. Britain was smart enough to be aware of “People Power” behind General Aung San.

I thik this article is bad and base on the writer's judgement not evidence. Bcoz it is quite brainwashing for to take out our leader Bo Gyoke A.San. We can never leave from histroy and reality, on top of that these laders fight the independence of our country from their blood and heart. We love ppl whoes scaricifice their life for the ppl of our country and for the freedom of our country. Shame on this article.
During WWII, Roosevelt and Churchill wanted Stalin to involve in the war against Japan. At the time, the US atomic bomb had not been tested, and the feeling was that Soviet entry would hasten the defeat of Japan and save Allied lives. It was the same at Burma front. Allied forces wanted General Aung San to revolt the fascists to help them re-occupy Burma quickly, saving Allied lives and ethnic Karens, Kachins, Chins, etc. who were positioned in the front as the point men.
Stalin used the excuse of fighting Japan, at the very last minute, to invade China and create the conditions for Mao Tse-tung to seize power. In Feb 1945, Stalin confirmed to Roosevelt and Churchill that Russia would enter the Pacific War. This meant the Soviet Army would enter China, and thus give Mao his long awaited chance to take the country. On 5 April 1945, Moscow told Tokyo it was breaking their Neutrality Pact. One month later Germany surrendered. This came right in the middle of the China Communist Party congress that ratified Mao’s supremacy. So, it was not new if General Aung San exploited the opportunity to obtain independence. It was in fact wise military strategy that Drs could never be understood.
It was Stalin who made Mao seized China. Did anyone say that CCP’s Peoples’ Liberation Army did not defeat Chiang’s Kai-Shek Nationalist Forces, but Russians did? It was US that defeated Japan, but the Russians seized Japan's Northern Islands. Did Russians battle Japanese like US had done. No. But what could you say? The Russians are still holding the Islands at the expense of US. Right? This is known as wise military tactics, and adopted by General Aung San as well.

The writer is confusing the history out of the present day lack of political openness, by recklessly observing and insulting General Aung San and his Tatmadaw with naive short-sighted attitude. He might either related to or reincarnation of “Galon U Saw” who assassinated General Aung San.
Other than telling white lies, turning the history into “his story” for propagation, the writer seemed not familiar anything with regard to political or military strategy. He is just like that crazy president who has described the “Holocaust as a fabrication”, and another one Muslim extremist who claimed the “9/11 attack as a CIA plot”.
What a shameful indecent writer. Please refrain from writing unless you have concrete facts to support, learned more about military and political tactics, and discerned everything in details after doing interviews and thorough research, etc
