Though
the generals have been reaping the fruits of labor of our fathers of
independence for 49 years since 1962 until today, the public was given
only three seconds to pay their tribute/respects: Salute, At Ease,
Dismiss!
The public was allowed to pay their respects in groups of 30 only, nothing in comparison to runaway inflation rate as well.
Specifically,
NLD youths were held up and subjected to questions of all sorts at the
entrance before letting them pass the gates.
Reportedly, the
number of people visiting and paying tribute (respects) to the Martyrs
was the highest this year, about 30,000 people, according to a youth
present at the occasion.
The line of people stretched from NLD
Head Office all the way to the Martyrs’ Mausoleum numbering some 30,000
according to a youth.
Bags were searched at the entrance and
mobile phones as well ordered to be left at the place. A group of 30
each time paid their tribute to the Martyrs when a member of the Union
Solidarity and Development Party yelled “Salute”.
A young female
youth said, “I went twice and paid tribute to the Martyrs. I noticed the
government was quite apprehensive of the people and the people are
getting more courageous as well”.
Another youth attending the
occasion remarked also, “NLD Head Quarters should have best served the
occasion and purpose in case the people attending the occasion are given
things like miniature flags or broaches as remembrances inscribed with
lines like, much honored and obliged for paying tribute on this 64th
Martyrs’ Day Anniversary, a sort of a way to garner people’s support on
the part of the NLD HQ as well”.
