The Shwe Gas Project, and other oil projects in Arakan have already precipitated massive restrictions on local livelihoods and significant environmental damage. As the projects go ahead, the similar problems to occur across Burma as well as mass forced relocation, forced labour and other human rights abuses caused by militarisation of the development regions.
The local ethnic people will be staying in high risk gas explosion environments in their daily lives.
The smallest spark or gas leak in gas and oil pipelines can ignite a flame with disastrous consequences.
Everyone should be aware of this life threatening project and should make every effort to stop this Shwe Gas project .
