Education expenses are relatively higher for students in Sagaing township, Sagaing Division, when they study at higher learning institutes (university and colleges) in ...
Sagaing Division after their high school graduation.
Going to higher learning institutes in Mandalay Division where they could easily commute from their homes as well is more preferable for students’ parents; hence they opted to place their children in colleges and higher learning institutes in Mandalay.
Therefore, as soon as they passed their 9th grade the students from Sagaing enrolled at state high schools in Shwe-Kyet-Yet, Yay Kyi Pauk, Chaung Gywa etc. in Mandalay Division, for their high school graduation.
It is compulsory for each student to hand over Ks. 112,000 (Kyats. One Hundred and Twelve Thousand) as transfer fees to the school principals to study in the schools in Mandalay.
On July 15, 2011, Mandalay Education Department called a meeting of the students and compelled them to give their signatures agreeing to study in their present schools or transfer to their former local schools in their township (Sagaing), their choice of course.
However, on the next day after giving their signatures the students having their addresses in Sagaing township were forced to transfer back to their previous schools in Sagaing as per orders signed by the education officer.
Though the Sagaing students studying in Shwe-Kyet-Yet High School were forced relocated back to their former schools in Sagaing, the students studying in other schools in Mandalay remained enrolled in their respective schools after paying Ks. 400,000 (Four Hundred Thousand Kyats) to the authorities; they were not practically attending the classes though.
The students who are still enrolled in the schools in Mandalay are taking tuitions at Daw Thin Thin Khine and GCE private tuitions as well.
Hence, it is hereby we called upon the concerned authorities to exercise measures in a fair and just manner for all students involved.
This information is publicized with a view to highlight the concerned authorities in the education department in Mandalay exercising malpractices on the students mainly
